2025 School Explicit Improvement Agenda (EIA):
Curriculum – English
Multi-tiered Approach to support
Curriculum – Math V9
Dear Miami State School Community,
We have thoroughly enjoyed the term with the demonstration of our commitment to community, respect for each other and taking the time to stand strong and proud for what we believe in. Congratulations to all students and staff at Miami SS.
Thank you to our partners in our school community - our wider community and parents and carers for your commitment and trust in our school. We have had a very successful term and have seen growth and improvement in our students, both academically, socially and emotionally. I cannot praise out amazing staff more highly, they are so dedicated to our students and our school and continue to ensure our students receive a world class education every day.

P & C Executive Committee
At our P&C Annual General meeting this term we welcomed our new P&C Executive Team. I would like to congratulate the following in their successful appointment.
- President - Paula Reynolds
- Secretary – Natalie Hilliyard
- Treasurer – Mark Ignativ
I look forward to continue the strong relationship we have between the school and the P & C to ensure great outcomes for our students. We encourage all parents and carers to join us on our next meeting. P&C meetings will be held on a Monday afternoon from 3:15pm in the STEMosphere each month. Please check the Term calendar for Term 2 dates and look out for dates on What’s on this week.
ANZAC Day
Our ANZAC day Ceremony will be held on Wednesday April 23rd 2025 in our school hall. We will hold two ceremonies at our school which will be led by our school leaders. We will have our school ceremony prior to ANZAC Day in order to prepare and educate the children on the significance of the occasion before the march on the Friday. A great part of this day is the opportunity to participate in the community celebration and recognition ceremonies. More details will be available about this opportunity when we return from holidays.
Keep a watch on our school these holidays

With the holidays fast approaching, your support in looking out for after-hours crime in our school is appreciated. If you see something suspicious, please don’t attempt to personally intervene. Call School Watch on 13 17 88 and let the local police or State Government Protective Security Service deal with the matter. The School Watch program is a partnership between the Department of Education, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools.

As we move into the holidays, I trust you will take good care of our little people. Please ensure you have safety plans for them and that you know where they are at all times. If you are travelling on the holidays please do so with great care and if you are staying in the area, please provide structure for the children to keep them busy and occupied.
I would like to wish all staff, students and our entire Miami SS community a wonderful Easter vacation. I am sure everyone is looking forward to some well-earned rest and relaxation. Be safe and cherish your time with friends and family. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school happy and healthy on Tuesday, 22 April for the commencement of what promises to be an action-packed Term 2. Some upcoming events to look forward to include our ANZAC School Assembly, ANZAC Day March, P&C Mother’s Day Stall, Under 8’s Day, Junior Cross Country, Performing Arts Evening and our Inter-House Athletics Carnival to name but a few.
Again, I would like to thank our school community for their ongoing support of our great school. I hope everyone has a wonderful break. See you next term.
Warm regards,
Jemille Malouf

Deputy Principal’s Message

Welcome to Week 10
As I write this, there are only a few days left of the term. It’s crazy to think the first term is nearly done. It has been a very busy start to the year and the upcoming 2 weeks holiday will be very welcome for our students and staff who have worked so hard over the past 10 weeks. Can I thank those parents/carers who managed to book a Parent Teacher Interview recently. With just over 600 interviews booked, it was great to see the professional conversations that were had between parents and staff. Our next official Parent Teacher Interviews will occur early Term 3, after end of semester report cards that will be sent home at the end of Term 2.
PBL
Don’t forget, Miami State School is Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) brings together the whole-school community to contribute to developing a positive, safe and supportive learning culture. The framework assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.
When PBL is implemented well, teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:
- reduced problem behaviour
- increased time focused on instruction
- improved social-emotional wellbeing
- positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
- support for teachers to teach, model and respond effectively to student need
- a predictable learning environment where staff and students know what is expected to deliver effective practices that can be sustained over time
The PBL framework supports schools to identify and successfully implement evidenced-based whole-school practices that enhance learning outcomes for children and young people.
This is achieved by using the framework to strengthen systems within the school such as, structures, and processes that underpin ongoing school improvement and the effectiveness of all school members. For example, the school strengthens its use of school-wide data to identify patterns of problem behaviour, monitor student progress, reflect on teaching effectiveness and inform decisions that strengthen the learning environment.

The expectations explicitly taught this term include:
- Respect our wider community.
- Follow before and after school procedures.
- Use the toilet appropriately.
- Listen to and follow instructions.
- Give your best effort!
- Wear your school uniform correctly with pride.
- Follow school routines and bell times.
- Be on time and ready to learn.
- Introduction to being a Respectful, Safe Learner
This year we will continue awarding house tokens for our House Cup. Students have been earning house tokens for when they have participated in a variety of extra-curricular activities and when they have received a PBL Achievers certificate on Assembly. The winning house this term will be rewarded with extra play. Unfortunately, with the current weather, this will need to be shifted into the new term. Our 2024 winning house was Norman, who will win 2025!

Finally, I would like to wish all members of the Miami State School community a safe and relaxing break and a Happy Easter. Hopefully you find some time to relax and spend time with those who matter most. I look forward to seeing rested smiling faces returning to school on Monday the 22nd of April.
Until next term,
Ben Edmunds

The Benefits of Participating in the Triple P Parenting Program
At our school, we believe in supporting families to create positive, nurturing environments for their children. One fantastic resource available to parents is the Triple P Parenting Program, which has been helping families all over Australia. But what exactly is Triple P, and how can it benefit both parents and kids?
Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) is an evidence-based program designed to help parents manage their children's behaviour, improve communication, and develop stronger, healthier relationships. The program offers a range of strategies to help families handle everyday challenges with confidence and ease.
Here are just a few of the many benefits of participating in Triple P:
- Improved Parenting Skills
Triple P provides parents with practical strategies to address common parenting challenges, such as tantrums, fussy eating, or sleep difficulties. By learning new techniques, parents can feel more confident in their ability to respond to their child’s needs. - Stronger Family Relationships
The program emphasizes the importance of positive, open communication. Parents learn how to encourage their child’s positive behaviours while maintaining a loving, respectful relationship. This helps families create a more peaceful home environment. - Reduced Stress for Parents
Parenting can be challenging, and sometimes it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Triple P helps reduce stress by offering simple and effective solutions to everyday problems, allowing parents to feel more in control and less anxious. - Better Outcomes for Children
When parents use positive parenting strategies, children thrive. With clear expectations, consistent routines, and plenty of encouragement, kids are more likely to develop good behaviours, be more cooperative, and grow in a healthy, supportive environment. - Flexible and Accessible
Triple P is available in various formats, including online courses, group sessions, and one-on-one consultations. This makes it easy for busy families to access the support they need, no matter their schedule or location.
By participating in the Triple P Parenting Program, families can build a foundation for a happier, healthier future. If you're interested in learning more about Triple P and how it could help your family, visit the official Triple P website at https://www.triplep-parenting.net.au/qld-en/triple-p/
Let's continue working together to create a positive environment for all our children to thrive in!

HPE News
Despite the rain, our Rugby 7's and Tennis teams had an absolute blast at Miami High School!
The weather couldn’t dampen their spirits as they came together, showcasing their skills, team spirit, and school pride. From fierce tackles on the rugby field to swift volleys on the tennis court, everyone gave it their all, proving that it's not just about winning – it’s about having FUN, playing as a team, and pushing through challenges!
Coaches were beyond proud of how our athletes represented the school with such enthusiasm and determination. A big shout-out to all the players for making the most of this amazing opportunity, and to our incredible coaching staff for guiding them every step of the way. We thank Miami State High School and their Rugby 7's & Tennis Excellence coaches, staff and players for putting on a great carnival.
What a fantastic day filled with teamwork, sportsmanship, and plenty of smiles – rain and all!
Well, done to some of our tennis players who were awarded winners taking out Overall Champions and Best on Court on the day. Thanks to all that made it possible.

Meet Lucas – Our Aquathlon Superstar!
We’ve got a future triathlon champ on our hands! Lucas just tackled the impossible by representing QLD in Aquathlon – and he totally crushed it!
Competing against older students, Lucas showed them all how it’s done. He came in 2nd fastest 11-year-old and 5th overall in the U12 age group! Talk about an outstanding performance!
If his record keeps up, we might just see his name popping up on the TV one day (move over, Olympics, here comes Lucas!). Who knows? The next big triathlon star could be a familiar face!
Huge congrats to Lucas for showing incredible determination and skill. We couldn’t be prouder of you! 🌟

Office Notice Board Week 9

5C has been reading Eureka Boys – Do You Dare, 1854, a novel set during the Australian gold rush. The story follows a young boy named Henry as he navigates the many challenges of life on the goldfields. Inspired by the novel, 5C created stunning artworks depicting gold miners, using a blend of watercolours, inks and texta to bring their visions to life.
Office Notice Board Week 10

Students created powerful artwork inspired by Boy Overboard, starting with real images of refugee children. After discussing their stories and connections to Jamal’s journey, they used a digital drawing program to trace key features of their chosen image. Once printed, they brought their portraits to life with watercolour pencils, carefully adding colour to the subject while leaving the background black and white. This high-contrast effect highlights the resilience and emotion captured in each piece, reflecting the challenges and hopes of displaced children worldwide.

Hello parents/carers. Below is a flyer for a day camp being held next Monday 7th – Wednesday 9th April. This 3-day camp is run by SU Australia (my employer) and I will be attending as a leader. The camp is for all students but may be particularly appropriate if your child currently attends Religious Instruction at school as there are some low-key life lessons based on bible teachings. Last year’s camp was a huge success. There are still some places available.
