2025 School Explicit Improvement Agenda (EIA):
Curriculum – English
Multi-tiered Approach to support
Curriculum – Math V9
Dear Miami State School Community,
Welcome back to what promises to be an action-packed Term 2 at Miami SS! It is wonderful to see so many happy, relaxed faces ready to embark upon a new round of learning. We also have a number of special events occurring this term. Our whole school ANZAC Day Ceremony, Burleigh Heads ANZAC Day March, P&C Mother’s Day Stall, Under Eights Day, Year 5 & 6 sports Gala Day, Performing Arts Evening, Choral Fanfare, Musical rehearsals and preparation, Senior Athletics Carnival, Junior Cross Country, to name but a few. We are looking forward to many students, parents and community members taking up these opportunities to be involved in the life of our school and celebrate our students’ extensive talents with us.
Explicit Improvement Agenda
On an academic level, we are continuing this term to work towards achieving our Annual Implementation Plan goals relating to student improvement and achievement in English and Math.
Our 2025 Prep to Year 6 English targets are:
Year | English | English |
Target | 94% | 71% |
Our 2025 Prep to Year 6 Math targets are:
Year | Math | Math |
Target | 96% | 80% |
This year, we are implementing Version 9 Math of the Australian Curriculum. Our staff have been working collaboratively in the design of our new Math Curriculum. We will continue to embed our English Units which were developed and rolled out in 2024 to align with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum. This term we are teaching a range of topics, such as: Australian Animals, Natural Disasters, Migration to Australia and students across Prep to Year 6 will be writing and creating an informative text based on these topics.
Semester 1 Student Report Cards will be issued electronically for all students in the final week of term.
Reminder of School Uniform
Jewellery:
Students are permitted to wear only the following items:
- A watch
- One small plain stud or small plain sleeper of silver or gold in the lower lobe of each ear
- Medical alert bracelets
- Religious or culturally significant pendants by written request of parent
Hair:
All students are to wear their hair in a neat and tidy manner. Hair shoulder length needs to be tied back. Extreme hairstyles are not permitted e.g. Mullets, mohawks, undercuts/tracks, rat’s tail, dreadlocks, non-natural hair colour, no dying or bleaching of hair or multi-colouring of hair. Hair cut style should be conservative in nature.

CORRECT FOOTWEAR GUIDE – Black enclosed shoes with “No” markings or coloured laces
Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey – Year 4 to 6 Students
As in previous years, Year 4 to 6 students will once again be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey. The QEW Survey gives schools the opportunity to hear the collective voice of their students and will help monitor their school culture and student wellbeing and engagement. This information will allow us to better support our students and meet their needs.
‘Time Out’ Poster – Keeping your child and other children healthy
We love to see all of our students at school every day they are well enough to attend. On some occasions however, your child may become unwell. Please view the following Queensland Health ‘Time Out’ poster to see recommendations for keeping your child at home.

Warm regards,

Deputy Principal’s Message

Welcome back to the second term of the year. I trust everyone had a wonderful break over Easter and managed some time to stop, rest and recharge ready for the term ahead.
In week one, we held our annual Anzac commemorative services to recognise those service men and woman who have helped shaped the country we live in today. It was wonderful to hear the choir sing at these services and we are proud of the wonderful job our School Captains did in hosting these events.
Year 6 Camp:
Recently I attended the Year 6 Camp with staff and students. This annual camp is held at ‘Camp Goodenough’, just over the border in the Tweed Hinterland. It was a wonderful experience for all with many students overcoming a fear of heights and giving something a go that would normally be out of their realm of comfort. A very big thank you to the staff who attended camp; Mr Parker, MrBahnsen, Mrs Seaman, Ms Ziegler and Mr Smith. Thanks also to Chappy Shane who visited and supported as well. Without you, experiences such as camp are not made possible. Being away from family and friends is a very big commitment and one that I know our students and parents very much appreciated.
Parking / Kiss and Go
As a school we understand parking can be very difficult around the school grounds, in particular during the afternoon pick up between 3:00 and 3:15. Please be mindful of the requirements around the Kiss and Go and the general streets bordering. The Kiss and Go is not a parking space and is a quick drive in, pick up and drive out process. It is also important to remember not to block the driveways of the school and surrounding houses. With the school continuing to grow there are bound to be more cars in what are already busy streets. Please remember to be patient and tolerant of other drivers and pedestrians. We thank you in advance for this.
Until next term,
Ben Edmunds

Deputy Principal’s Message
It’s been another exciting week of learning across our school!
🐄 Prep Incursion: Old McDonald’s Farm Comes to School!
This week, our Prep students were thrilled to welcome some very special visitors—Old McDonald and his friendly farm animals! The farm incursion provided a hands-on, sensory learning experience that linked beautifully to our English, Science, and Design Technologies units. Students explored animal features and discussed life on the farm. It was a memorable day full of curiosity, creativity, and lots of smiles!
🕰️ Year 2 Excursion: Travel Through Time
Next week, our Year 2 students will be heading out on an exciting “Travel Through Time” excursion to Burleigh Headland. This immersive experience will help students explore both the natural environment and the local history of the area. This excursion offers a rich opportunity to learn about how the land has changed and been cared for over time.
📸 School Photo Reminder – Next Wednesday & Thursday
A friendly reminder that school photos are scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday. Families must log in to the Master Photography website and use their unique student code to order photos before photo days. If you need help locating your code or accessing the website, please contact the office.
Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement with your children’s learning.

Robot Sumo Competition 2025
On April 28, 2025, the Gold Coasts inter-school Robot Sumo competition was held at Carrara. The event featured intense matches where student-engineered robots battled to push their opponents out of the ring using strategy, programming, and design innovation.
Out of 116 teams, three teams from Miami, advanced to the final round after showcasing exceptional performances. The finals were fiercely contested, with robots displaying impressive agility, sensor precision, and pushing power.
Although Miami didn’t win the final, Miami’s: Ivy, Indi and Havana took out the Girl Power Award and Grace, Atticus and Liam won their division comprehensibly.
A huge congratulations must go to all four Miami teams for their amazing teamwork, dedication and most of all, their sportsmanship, whether winning their battles or not.
Great stuff Team!
